I saw this female brimstone butterfly feeding on nectar from the flowers of a perrenial phlox in my garden. As you can see from the series of photographs, the butterfly had to push its head right into the opening of the flower so that its proboscis could reach the nectary. It appeared to be successful, as it stayed on the plant for about 15 minutes, and it, or another female, returned to the same plant the following morning.
