Egyptian Geese at Attenborough Nature Reserve

Swallows & Brimstone Butterfly

I’ve added two new pages today. The first is photographs of some swallows preening themselves on wires outside the Staunton Arms at Staunton-in-the-Vale in Nottinghamshire. The other shows a female Brimstone butterfly feeding from phlox flowers in our garden.

Black-tailed Skimmer Dragonfly

We were visited yesterday very briefly by a female black-tailed skimmer dragonfly. It rested on a fence post  just long enough for me to take two photographs, which can be seen here.

Jay, Oystercatchers, Blue Tits and a Gentian

Recent additions to the site include photographs of a jay, a pair of oystercatchers, blue tits and the first flower on a spring gentian (Gentiana verna) which I’ve grown from seed.

Blue Tit

We’ve sited a new bird feeder just outside the kitchen window, and it’s begun to attract visitors, including robins, great tits and blue tits.

A brief visit from a heron

Looking out of the window this afternoon, I noticed a grey bird land in the hedge at the bottom of the garden. It was too big to be a pigeon, and I realised it was a heron. I managed a few photos before it flew off. You can see them here, together withone taken at Gunthorpe in the snow last week.
