Mute Swans 2

A flock of swans had just flown over this group and landed in a field at Shelford, across the Trent from where we were walking, around sunset on New Year’s Eve, 2009. These swans clearly communicated with one another, turned to face into the wind, and took off, passing the rooks and jackdaws I had just been photographing flying in to roost.

Then they turned across the river towards the Bulcote side.

They turned again, and passed right over us.

They flew towards the setting sun before crossing the Trent and landing in the same field as the others.
