Another of my hobbies is playing the organ and making recordings using a MIDI keyboard. I’ve added a page with 3 chorale preludes from Bach’s Orgelbüchlein or ‘Little Organ Book.

Harmonograph – what you can do with a few bricks and some string!
April 29th, 2009 · No Comments
I’ve just added a new page with some photographs of a simple version of a harmonograph – two pendulums connected to a pen which traces their combined motion. The resulting traces are quite fascinating. See it here.

Red Squirrel
April 21st, 2009 · No Comments
I’ve done a bit of trawling through pre-website photographs, and found some of a red squirrel, taken at Skygarth Farm, Temple Sowerby, Penrith, Cumbria, UK in the summer of 2006. You can view these on the unsurprisingly named Red Squirrel page.

April 18th, 2009 · 1 Comment
Went to the monthly open morning of the Burton Joyce and Bulcote Local History Society today. The Centre for Local History is based in the Carnarvon Room, on Chestnut Grove in the centre of Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire, UK.
The Society has a monthly meeting with a speaker, on the second Tuesday evening of the month, and an open morning, usually the following Saturday, when a wide range of resources relating to the two villages are available to view.
More details about the society can be found at Burton Joyce and Bulcote Local History Society

Goosanders on the River Wharfe
April 7th, 2009 · No Comments
A very enjoyable couple of days spent in Wharfedale included a very pleasant walk along the River Wharfe upstream of Grassington. A pair of goosanders was quite unconcerned that we were close by, and we were able to watch them for about twenty minutes. Some of the resulting photographs are posted on goosanders page.

Water vole, grebe and lesser celendines
March 20th, 2009 · Comments Off on Water vole, grebe and lesser celendines
Managed two walks last weekend: one from Hoveringham to Gunthorpe; the other the spring walk organised by Bulcote Social.
Among the photographs I took were some of a water vole feeding, a great-crested grebe which stayed nearer to the riverbank we were walking along than they usually do, and patches of bright yellow lesser celendines. These have been added as new pages under photographs in the mammals, birds and plants sections respectively.

Mute and Black Swans
February 23rd, 2009 · No Comments
After a very pleasant lunch at the Bromley Arms at Fiskerton on Saturday, we walked along the Trent to Hazleford Ferry. On the way there and back I photographed a group of mute swans and a single black swan.
